Submitting a BESAFE Case Study
Case study, expert commentary, and related discussion questions should be in Microsoft Word, Times New Roman, regular font style, size 12.
In the header, please provide:
- Name, address, email address, telephone and profession
- BESAFE Web ROM ID
- Date of submission
A BESAFE Case Study should include the following
- Focus the case study on one or a combination of the six core elements of BESAFE. Barriers, Ethnics, Sensitivity, Assessment, Facts, Encounters
- Select patient background, discipline of the provider, and the BESAFE component to be addressed.
- Case Study should include the discipline and credentials of the author.
- Ensure that there is diversity among case studies.
- Maintaining balance between developing a case study and developing a curriculum.
- Identify your target audience.

- Advanced practice nurses
- Nurses
- Physician assistants
- Pharmacists
- Oral health professionals
- Consider case studies relative to the patient's first point of access.
- Discuss challenges to HIV care and treatment adherence in patients using the components of BESAFE.
- Take health literacy into account. Incorporate health literacy as it relates to the patient and the BESAFE model.
Explore cultural dynamics, such as age, gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status, that impact HIV care and treatment.
